                    The Art of H.L. GROEN

HEATHER GROENSTEIN is known as H.L. Groen in the art world and is an established fine art  professional, free thinker and creator of all things colorful and sometimes disturbing. She is  also a CT state certified visual art educator and teacher of the year with over twenty years'  experience in her field.  She continues to champion the arts and act as a voice for arts awareness throughout the educational system and the local arts community.  She  received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley College and obtained her Master of Arts from the Graduate Institute.

PERSONAL ARTWORK: H.L Groen's wish is that you form your own stories and personal connections to her work - What you perceive may be different from what she challenged herself to create. Personal connection is the ultimate purpose of her art once released into the world. She credits her father for her love of Art, and reverence for simplicity of Nature and fascination with indigenous and Native American culture.  These influences are observational in much of her drawings, paintings, and sculptures and her artworks are expressive; filled with bold colors and strokes both dominant and wistful and saturated with life force and energy.  Heather endorses every opportunity to learn and would eventually like to write a book on the self-awareness of being through creativity, cultures and traditions influenced by her experiences.     
                                                                                                                          ARTS EDUCATION: Within an inclusive, constructive and communal learning environment and through the establishment of artmaking; she has students celebrate their creative spirit, foster self, expression and inspires pride.  Known as “Mama G” to her students, H.L's goal is to empower the inner artist in each of her students and to make them aware of who they are through the process of art. She believes creating art generates problem solving skills and new ideas; students are no longer presented with fear but instead with confidence.

COMMUNITY: In 2008 Groen helped established and developed the former cooperative organization, The Libertine Collective and the Flight of the Mystics, which fostered a sense of community and motivation among  Connecticut artists and patrons while promoting the arts  and raising community awareness through the production of numerous arts productions for  over a decade.                                                       
H.L seeks to attain insight from her visions and creative process: 
“Art is a medium in which I find my way; who I was, who I am and who I will become. Art is a form of healing; a gift for the mind, soul, and spirit. "
